Welcome to Part-Time Sunshine’s Backyard Views my *updated slice-of-life blog aimed to reflect on more light despite the shadows in this wacky, wonderful world. Chasing everyday joys that spark laughter, learning, and love is my favorite sport.
Sometimes it’s a breeze to notice the gleam of simple treasures, like the dog greeting with a tail thumping a thousand heartbeats. Like scoring the last pair of Peanuts Gang Converse in your size. Like the invention of Lemon Oreos Thins.
Then there are the dimmer moments, the ones that make us dig deeper inside, if only for a glimmer. Since a sliver of light is better than none, I keep tunneling through the darkness. You might think because my nickname is Sunshine, I am always bright and cheery, but, during a full-moon moody Monday it would be less ironic to be called Dark Cloud, Stormy D, or Gruff Shine.
At best, I’m Part-Time Sunshine, and even though I smile more than I scowl, I still get the wailing, howling devil-down-in-Georgia blues. I expect the emotional aches, physical pains, spiritual strife, and mental strains.
Mercifully, I have become better at managing the struggles and noticing the joys which, like everything, are temporary. Each day is a reset, a gift to shift the spotlight on today’s backyard despite any weeds we need to work through.
I offer Part-Time Sunshine’s Backyard Views where scattering seeds, pulling weeds, shining light, and watering the soil of the soul can grow into an organic garden of stories. May they unclog a cloud, lighten a load, and louden a laugh.
Shine on!

*This is a revival of the original Tales from a Part-Time Sunshine. When COVID shut the world down in 2020, I took an unexpectedly long blog pause. It took years to regain the inspiration, drive, and confidence to reconnect with my muse and readers. Thank you for being here. It’s never to late to restart.
